During the fall of last year I had the same problem, and I settled for a Chinese brand called Cecilio. It was awful, I lost all of the entheusiasm i had previously. I got rid of it as quickly as possible, and searched for a few months for a new one that would be alot better than the one I had. I came across the Kenny G brand through a band director, and I honestly say it has been excellent. Its striking to look at, easy to hold and play, has great tone (Even with the crappy mouthpiece I got with it. I had to exchange for a Dukoff.) I got it from a website called Musicfactorydirect.com for a steal at $800 in Indiana. Mine is a G-Series, the last one. You can still order the Silver and Lacquer "E-series" for $700-$800 there, or if not, just grab one from KDI or Samash. Theres also the Selmer SS600 which you can get used for $500-$900. Stay away from cheap Chinese saxes! Good Luck!

@Alto Sax: I've never heard of that brand. It doesn't even come up on my Yahoo search. If you're looking for an alto I would go with the Conn/Selmer Pelude. They're beginner saxes that go for around $400 on ebay. Cheap and Cheerful. I use a Super Action II but as a backup on gigs I use an old Antigua 510 I got on ebay for $250. Antigua is a great brand to go looking for cheaper second hand saxes. They're amazing quality, and have a tone comparable to my S80 and the keyboard is also similar. If you're looking for a good cheap sop, probably E.M Winston. While I've never played one, I hear they're great quality with a pro sound. they list on ebay for around the same as the prelude depending on the model. The Vito soprano is also great. They're gonna be pricier... Maybe $800, but have the old Mk. 6 keyboard and in some cases were made under Yanagisawa. LA sax is another good brand for cheap and cheerful. Although, limited deals are available for them. The lowest I've seen them go is $300. But, hunt around a bit on Music Factory Direct. You might get lucky. Good Luck!
